About this event
The Festa di Castagnatura of Raggiolo marks the heart of the Castagnatura season, the roughly two-and-a-half-month chestnut harvest and processing period that once underpinned the local diet. The Saturday opens with a dinner around the burning hearth (ceppo), followed by mulled wine and live music. On Sunday the village serves a lunch of typical chestnut products, then from mid-afternoon guests enjoy chestnut sweets such as pan co’ santi, bricie (roast chestnuts) and baldino (chestnut cake) with vin brulé; at 5pm the hearth is lit in the square, giving way to Raggiolo stories told around the seccatoio, while a craft market runs through the village streets.
Happens every year.
Curious about the valley’s story? The Casentino Dante fought in, and wrote into the Comedy.
