About this event
The Festa dei Fochi (Festival of Fires) is one of the oldest popular festivals of the Casentino forests, celebrated for centuries when local woodcutters would return from the Maremma. In the evenings, great bonfires are lit in honour of the Virgin Mary, whose Nativity is celebrated on 8 September, accompanied by food stands, music, dancing under the stars and a firework show. The village of Badia Prataglia, in the municipality of Bibbiena, fills with visitors eager to relive this ancestral mountain tradition. Dates and programming are announced by the organising association each autumn.
Curious about the valley’s story? The Casentino Dante fought in, and wrote into the Comedy.
